With their aim at the serious off-roader, Mercedes Benz is expanding its G-Class lineup with a new variant. The vehicle is the awesome G500 4x4², first showed as a concept at March’s Geneva Motor Show and now headed for production.
Compared
to regular G-Class variants, the G500 4x4² adopts the raised ride
height (now 450 millimeters), permanent all-wheel-drive system,
reduction transfer case, trio of differential locks, and portal axles of
the insane Mercedes-AMG G63 6x6.
The
portal axles are what contribute to the raised height: unlike
conventional axles, the wheels are not at the height of the axle but are
instead situated lower thanks to the portal transmission. Owing to the
considerably wider track of the portal axles, the designers have added
large 22-inch wheels wrapped with massive 325/55 size tires to help fill
the wheel arches.
Power
comes from the Mercedes-AMG-developed twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8,
rated at 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque in the G500 4x4².
The same engine has also been confirmed for the regular G550 starting
from the 2016 model year.
The shipping to various countries of the world will start by September this year. Helo! wealthy Nigerian politicians, watch out for this! i pray our budgets should not sink in this luxurious toy.
