The launch of clean-up for long-lived oil devastated region of Niger Delta canceled by the Nigerian president Buhari.
The president was about to make his trip to the long abandoned region of Niger Delta where oil spillage by foreign companies have rendered the region devastated and lavished for agricultural growth and live stocks. This he said, is to inaugurate the $1billion initiative to clean up areas affected by oil spills in Ogoniland. But, the president
abruptly canceled his visit without any reason given for his cancellation, making it clear that the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be representing him on the occasion.
No official reason was given for the cancellation and Debo9ja contacted several presidential advisors, none of whom responded to requests for comment.
Meanwhile, the Niger Delta Avengers NDA who has been responsible for blowing-up most of the oil facilities own by the international companies including; shell, chevron stated clearly that, the president's visit to the land is in danger as was disclosed by an anonymous who claimed to be a member of the NDA.
The NDA also stated the state of neglect in the region as one of their worries, making it known that they needed a complete autonomy to manage their resources. It was stated clearly that the arrest of Nnamdi kalu, the leader of IPOB, a pro-biafran group and his immediate release is among what they are requesting for.
You should have in mind that, there have been so many police clashes with pro-biafran activists in the recent times in this region of Niger Delta.
Though, President Buhari is well known for this kind of withdrawals, The Nigerian president pulled out just before a working visit to the commercial capital Lagos in May due to "scheduling difficulties."
