OBAFEMI SENDS SIGNAL TO KESHI

Super Eagles’ reject, Obafemi Martins, on Sunday, sent fresh signal to Coach Stephen Keshi just barely a month to the commencement of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series. The former Inter Milan of Italy’s ‘Weapon of Mass Destruction’ currently tops the MLS scorers’ chart with six goals. He was left out of Super Eagles’ squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa in 2013 but was recalled weeks after the tournament for a 2014 World Cup qualifying match against Kenya. But after two unimpressive outings on the road to Brazil 2014, Keshi shut him out of the national team, the high-point being his exclusion from Nigeria’s squad to the last World Cup. Though, he was forced to retire by Keshi which Obafemi described as frustration from the Coach. He also emphasized that if given the opportunity again, he will perform very well. Martins scored in the 23rd minute in Monday’s game after he raced through on goal before slotting calmly beyond the New York goalkeeper to give Sounders the lead.
