An over-ambitious Lagos nanny who was hired through an online platform, OLX. kidnapped three kids that were entrusted to her care and demanded for N16m ransom.
Orekoya family had posted information on OLX, an online sales portal, seeking the service of a nanny. The Lagos nanny, Mary Akinloye, indicated interest and gave the Orekoyas the contacts of two people who she said were her relatives. The family agreed to formalize documentation with the purported relatives before the week ran out. After the 23-year-old resumed at work, she was said to have taken the three children, Aderomola, 11 months, Adedamola, 4, and Demola, 6, out, while their parents were away. For days, the unfortunate incident permeated the internet space and Nigerians vis-a-vis the international community condemned the act. Luckily for the traumatized family, the kids were rescued by the police after spending days in their captor’s den.
