Criteria For The Screening Of The Nigerian Ministerial Nominees.

Recently, our president released the list of nominated ministers after 3 months of unexpected delay. But, to most of us surprise the list do not merit it's waste of time. Nigerians was expecting may be, people from another planet based on the so much time wasted in making the long awaited selection as the case may be.

But, to our dismay still the same old cargoes we all know right from time made the list. Then, what is the essence of 3 months delay if i may ask? Anyway, lets not trigger quarrel because, i will not like to answer unnecessary query. Still on that, the senates have come out with their own policy that may even be detrimental to the early resumption of office or make it impossible for some of them selected ministers to amount to the post.

This is because, their recent criteria for the screening of the would-be ministers have some loop-holes that may even have some of them disqualified. Here are the criteria meted out by the senate:
1. All nominated ministers must truthfully declare their assets.
2. They must be nominated by two senators from their state.
3. Must have clean bill of health from public petition committee.

Well, the 3 criteria sounds good but, my most worry here is the second one which states that 3 senators must nominate the would-be minister from his /her state. Then, what if their is ranchor between the would-be minister and the senate to nominate as with the case of Chris Ngige? Don't you think, that will go a long way in disqualifying the individual based on the fact that, there is no level groung between the minister and his senator whom he is coming from the same state with.

And i believe that this will go along way encouraging manipulation and secret means of bribery by the minister in order to get nominated by his/her senator. As you can see, we are not yet matured from 3rd world politics. Until we learn how to congratulate our opponent when defeated, that is when we have to practice this second policy in our politics. What do you think about this second criteria?
